The passing of Brian King has just been reported on the Model Boat Mayhem website.

Brian was one of the true greats, universally respected as a master model maker and gentleman. I knew him for many years and stood in awe of his abilities. He was a regular exhibitor at the Model Engineer Exhibition and won many Gold Medals for his wonderful work, especially his Victorian era battleship models.

Brian was a 'one off' and I doubt if we shall see his like again but his skills will live on in his books and other published work.

Doesn't seem too long ago, we were reading about the auctioning of his models. Like many others I can only look at photographs of his stunning workmanship.

I've just been reading his excellent book on ship modeling. He was superb and will be much missed.

He was an inspiration to many of us. I only wish I had 25% of his talent.

I have been told by Brian's close friend David Watkin that Brian's funeral will be held at Woking Crematorium, Surrey (Hermitage Road, St John's, GU21 8TJ) on Monday 27 June at 11:45 am. The undertakers are Walter Wortt of Addlestone.

Brian's fellow modellers are welcome.
