Saw this lovely 12`-0″ model of Waverley at Llandudno the other day, it was awesome and lovely to watch……..the only thing that spoilt it,  was the overthetop volume of a Scots pipe band blaring out so loud!……….much better would have been a steam engine sound and a nice hooter etc!

 

Would be nice to sail one at Etherow?

i know what you mean, bob about the music……it’s even worse when you’re on the real thing cruising “doon the watter” and a b*****y folk band with  squeeze box thinks it’s entertaining you for the whole 6 hours.

the only difference then is that you can’t get away, unless ya walk the plank, lol

I tried to have a conversation with him………but he wasn`t the “chatty” type…and he cringed when I mentioned the net!

 

He was a bit busy at the time, controlling a tugboat at the same time as the Waverley!

Sounds, as i may have gone about before, are a very subjective thing and the loudness or otherwise of the gramaphone on the steamer falls firmly into this category and NO DOUBT if the owner is happy with it then thats that.

 

There of course may have been technical issues, ie no volume control, or the owner may be hard of hearing.Personally just a hint of music would be my choice, just the merest strains of a tune drifting across the water when the boat is at a distance, Perhaps you might call it SCALE music!!

 

I will reiterate my dislike of 2000Hp diesel motor sounds coming from a boat 2 feet long…

Your right Bob ,went to Llandudno yesterday and the chap was there with his three big boats AND the music was not so loud as annoying and as you say he was not the chatty type .BUT what models and devices to get them into the water ,Excellent ..
