You`re right there, Barry……………Had it been in plastic sheeting, it would have attracted no attention whatsoever!

That may be true ashley, but the satisfaction you get from building with wood is worth all the effort…

Barry, I get satisfaction building in anything  although I do prefer wood. My current project has a wooden hull, but I’m going to build the superstructure in styrene sheet, as it is easier to paint and better represents a metal structure, in my opinion, anyhow.

I know exactly what you mean, a nice model built in wood with minimum filler and such is a joy to behold, but sadly I then splosh paint all over it. sigh    Ashley

Destined to be Black..or should I stain it very dark  mahogany?? It took me  ages to carve and then sand it to get an even curve either side.  Ashley

The sub looks great and must have involved a lot of work.
Here is an idea…..before you paint the sub you could take a casting and make a mold so that you could produce some more hulls and flog them on fleabay.

It would make a better mould if it was painted first?

I am afraid its not QUITE as good as it looks in the picture, also not forgetting it has flat sides, which doesnt matter when in the water but looks worse on dry land. It should look convincing in the pond as the top is a reasonable shape. It didnt take that long but you have to be careful, as if you take too much off its a bit difficult to out it back on. i have painted it a fetching shade of dark grey now and the problem with working in wood has manifested itself…too much grain on the sides. I dont know whether to pollyfilla it orknifing putty it…or just sand/undercoat/sand etc etc.     I may go for the readymix/quick dry polyfilla.
