      Hi All

For the past few years on / off I have been getting the covers to all of the Model Maker / Model Boats Magazines from Issue 1 in 1950 to the latest issues. I have now started to compile these into a album, At the moment there is only 1950-1954 available to view as I Experiment with the style, layout etc, and I am still scanning in the other issues ( Currently up to number 500)

When you click the link below this will take you direct to the page, click on the button 1950-1954, this will open up a new page, you can view as seen or click on the TV type Icon top right of the yellow box to increase the screen size, clicking it again takes it back to normal.

Enjoy.. ( PS Shipping wonders is also on to view. there were not as many to scan)

          That's a nice idea, Larry

It's interesting looking back and remembering them from our early modelling days

          The prices are amusing too

A couple of years ago, I was "absorbing some time" and went into a charity shop and found a pile of magazines, old football programmes etc. There was a Model Maker magazine, early 60's with a Vic Smeed plan for a car ferry (to suit Matchbox toy cars). What amazed me was the lack of things that we now take foe granted e.g. radio control. Also the need to manufacture items such as the prop.

              Hi Larry

This is a great resource to have. Meccano did this for their magazines a while back. Made them all available as PDFs. From 1916 through to 1980's. Not many later on but a fantastic read. I have downloaded a few where they have plans and articles of Model Boats.

                HI Andy

That must have been a large task for Meccano. its bad enough scanning just under 800 front covers !!

have uploaded a few more mags to the site , now up to 1994

I remember quite a few of the older covers. Surprising how the cost has gone up over the years as well. Model Boats was the first magazine that I ever wrote for on a fairly regular basis between 30 and 40 years ago. Pity the contents are not there with the covers, but, of course, that would have doubled the work required to produce the record.

It's also interesting to see how the magazine has grown. My early bound years are about 1 1/4 inches thick, while current ones are nearer 1 3/4. In the early days we didn't get the detailed articles on the builds, probably a couple of pages and the odd b/w photo.

                      HI Bob / Ian

Tripled as most of the contents are on 2 pages !!, poor scanner not happy about the scans I am doing..

Saying that, I do have the contests pages on some of the later ones.. However if you are looking for a particular article I can recommend the magazine exchange search facility, as they actually have a fair few of the contents detailed, the pictures are not as good but they are a Magazine back issue site for many other mags as well.. I personally have found the site very useful for reference.

Very handy to look back on, when required

                              Thanks Bob

It took a bit longer than I expected but I am quite happy with the results, and as far as I am aware it is possibly the most complete viewable record of all the mags,

It is also invaluable if you are trying to track down a plan article as most of the main ones were illustrated on the cover.

                                Well done Larry.

I have another side project, just tidying it up at the moment, smiley
