43ft RSL PLAN/ARTICLE QUERY

Reference plan number MM412 for the 43ft Range Safety Launch. Can anyone with old magazines and indexes please tell me which issue the original article appeared in? I have issues back to 1954 (not all mine, I inherited my fathers up to 1969) but no indexes, and if I start looking through them I'll get distracted and sidetracked.

I'm checking up on the two boats that were based in Boston in the late 1950s.

An item appears in the April 1959 Model Maker magazine – Radio in a Range Safety Launch.

The Magazine Exchange, dealers in the old magazines, have an index and search system.

That helped, thanks. I went hotfoot to the bookshelf and pulled out the 1959 volume. It was an article on fitting radio to the model. That gave me a latest date to look back from and I finally after browsing non-related articles (told you I got sidetracked) in the January 1956 issue. Unfortunately, because of a postal hiccup, the plan wasn't illustrated and it was only a two page article on model construction. Looks like I'll have to buy the plan now, and add another one to the dream list.

ps, I checked out the Magazine Exchange site, and a lot of the early years issues have no list of contents. Perhaps when I have time!!

Sometimes further detective work is needed when researching these old items and plans, a good result though – you found it. Some of these older designs certainly build into very attractive models and this Thorneycroft Launch is one. A large model at 43", but shouldn't be a problem for todays electric power drive systems.

Dream Lists are something we all have, and I've just had a big 'clear out' of the wish list. They will never get built and the items and plans have just been put in a binder.

One problem with old build articles is that they often extended over several issues, half a dozen was not uncommon. This policy continued until relatively recently and placed restrictions on the selection of reprinted articles I could choose from in the recent annual Model Boat special issues.

And some of them (HMS Warrior) seemed to go on for years. it was quite annoying when the build for the Xmas free plan went on over into the next years early issues.

Does anyone have a scan of sheet 2 please?

Apparently the January '56 edition "described" the plan, but was either sheet also included in any way (either reduced to fit on one page, or as a pull-out plan)?
