I need to find a small size battery 24 VOLT AT 800mA .

Does any one of a supplier for this size battery, please?

need smallest size so it will fit into gondola.

I got this smoke unit off the tinternet..

It says use a … Quote..

Steam/Smoke simulator voltage is 24 v DC at 800 MA .

Observe polarity when connecting .

RED is Positive

BLACK & BLUE is Negative.

Ah ha….do they mean the current draw is 800mA?? if so you will need as large a battery as you can really, for endurinmg smoke/steam..

Yes… that's it …but I'm not like you and Dave Milbourn… all this Volts and milli amps… a bit like the things you read on the side of a pyramid…lol

So why do you need such a big battery 24volt…when the milli amp draw is only 800mA ?

The high voltage is needed to drive the nebuliser which produces the vapour.

Volts are electrical pressure whereas milliamps are electrical flow. Think of it like a water tap, with volts being the equivalent of the mains pressure and amps being the speed of the water running from the tap when you turn it on.

I wrote an article for folk just like you in the MB Winter Special, so now there's no longer a hiding place behind such a limp excuse. As my grandson says, it's not cool to be dumb…..it's just dumb!

Your analogy, as your article in the magazine is basic and understandable to me, thank you.

Limp..dumb.. sounds like being back at school…

I do have a degree and astro physics stuff, but when you start talking about electricery… its like algebra, verbal gob sh****.. er.. thingy.

I have to keep going back to your article and re -visit.

I guess its like the brick wall of ignorance, just have to keep chipping away, at any age.

Ian. Don't be put off by the vast intellect that is the body of the forum with things electric.

Do you have a pond/lake/body of water near you with boaters on it?? This is the best form of education, see some of these things in action and ask.

Hi ,, Ashley…

I don't mind asking the simple question as I can see you have a vast tank of info on this site and as for the simple question… its only stupid if asked three times ...

We have the Fairhaven lake about a mile away, which I have visited and the model boat club is very helpful.

It feels the wrong time of year to be asking questions on the lake side as, the people are wanting to get on with the time spent..boating.

I am waiting to go in to Blackpool Vic for open heart surgery and find my time better spent on the boat build and research on the net…at the moment, will be more enthusiastic this summer… hopefully.

Also would like to visit the Fleetwood model boat club about 8 miles away.

Ian. There is no such thing as stupid, just ignorant. And by that I mean of the "don't know " variety.

Any boat club should be helpful and enthusiastic, and if not….

I have not been to many shows, but it has struck me that there is not such enthusiasm at some stands. If it was me at a show I would be up there and involving the audience with interesting info and model boating titbits, and extolling the virtue of my collection. I have been to shows of other varieties and it always strikes me as there are a lot of people there who appear to show whatever it is they show, by rote..it is a habit.

Ask away.

The simplest way of getting the higher voltage might well be to use a stick of 1000 mAH AA NiMH cells as an add-on to the drive battery. If that is a 12vSLA, it would need 8 extra cells. Thats about an hours running. It would, of course, cut the main battery run time.

Ashley – over the years I have been to quite a few shows, mostly repeats of the same circus, and I agree. My belief is that the models on display should have some basic information with them. Inform and educate as well as entertain. Most of the shows that my club attends are dedicated model boat shows where most of the public crowd are already model boaters, but we also get the occasional invite to other "do's", where most of the visitors haven't even heard of model boats, and they are probably the most important target. The stands minders should also be available, if only to hand out membership forms. Of course, every time we take a boat to the park, we are effectively putting on a show………

Many thanks for the reply… very helpful, thanks.

My underlying thought was to use a small battery that would delivery required charge for 15 to 30 mins, that seems to me enough time on the water. As don't want to see a smoke screen.

Also wondering what the realistic view will look like for a constant delivery of steam and should the fan be pulsated in some way.

£0 mins is not much time on the wtaer, and the battery power will start to tail if it only lasts for 30 mins in any event.

What weight margin do you have ? a larger pair of 12 batteries would be better and useable on futute projects as the main battery..

I will be trying all the ideas for fitting the batteries, I will have to raise the deck to fit things in and will have to move some of the old cabin space, to fit the smoke unit .

OK I just got scientific. On weighing 12 volts worth of AA NiMHs, I got 200gm. 2 lots to give a dedicated 24 volt supply would be 400gm. 2000 and 2500mAH are common enough values, and should have plenty of life at the end of your chosen run time.

I would consider using them as 12 volt packs to make life simpler for charging, 24+ volt chargers are not easily come by, but Y leads for connecting batteries in series are.
