Why is it that when i put my 8 aa batteries into my HI TEC Ranger 2 N they show zero life but then when i put the same bateries into my ACCOMS Techniplus they light up like a christmas tree .Anyone else have this problem ?? It seems strange that it will work in one but not the other . Are some AA batteries different to others ???

Sounds as if they are not making proper contact in the Ranger battery box. Try bending the contacts out slightly.

I have found that rechargeable batteries usually have smaller positive "pips" than Duracells or whatever. I have had to trim several battery holders with a scalpel to allow proper contact using Nimh batteries.

And as Colin says, eventually the sprung tabs weaken.

Yup, agree with Colin and Ashley

I've had this problem with a "Chinese" 2.4 set, the laughingly copied battery spring contacts (in the battery compartment) actually flattened first time a battery was pressed into place (alkaline), and the next time different batteries were used (enelope Ni-MH) there was no power as they made no contact.

lifting all the tabs enabled contact again, but as Ashley did, first I trimmed the slot to allow more positive end to poke through – and then I actually got some new spring contacts from Rapid electronics which are strongly springy and all is happy in the garden again.

Lesson – you get what you buy!
