Hi,Advise please. I'm building MTB 379 to Barrie Griffin's design. I'm planning to use 2, 380MFA can motors as per the plan, and a Viper 20A ESC. However it there gets a bit vague as both on the drawing and his video theres no detail regarding ECS/ wireing. Is it in order to wire the motors in parallel from the ESC, or should it be in series. Whats best practise, Also any battery suggestions would be appriecated as i've got 2S and 3S lipos from my planes, or would the 8v Nicad be the way.

      Many Thanks for any help.

          Hi Brian,

380's in parallel with 3 cell 2200 lipos will be fine should give you approx 10 mins planing.

          Here's mine,sedate not ballistic suits me 😀

I'm confused, the MFA 380 motors are rated at 7.2 volt maximum. Why aren't they burning out on 11 volts plus?

              Or have I misunderstood something.

                Hi Brian,

Yes Charles is right they are in fact MFA Como RE385's 6-15v so worth checking if you have the motors already what voltage they can handle, same as in HMS Cossack.

Thanks Charles and Ray for the update.

In fact i dropped off as the motors i bought were the MFA/como drill 540's which are 4.5v to 15v. So using 3S wired in parallel should be ok.

Thanks so much for the advise, as i wasn't totally sure that would be ok going parallel from the ESC. as with my planes i've used straight connections.

                  Kindest regards

                  Brian

If these are the standard 540/1 motors you are dangerously near the limit of the speed controller with 2 of them. I would fit a fuse between motor and ESC in case 1 or both the motors stalls through picking up weed or plastic in the pond. It could save your ESC.

I would recommend using 2 controllers , its safer that way.

                    Charles.

                      Thanks Charles.

Ive come back to this project after being seriously ill, and trying to get myself sorted and get this project completed. I had done some loaded current tests previously and seem to remember drawing around 6amps from my 3s 3500 packs with a motor pretty well loaded. I had intended to fuse the cct although I see mixed opinions on fusing on other threats. However, 3s 3500 packs some punch and should that short cct that’s disastrous, and I’d always play safe. I have to say just getting a second ESC makes sense and keeping it straight.

                      many thanks for your help.

                      Kindest Regards

                      Brian
