Hi All

quick question when attaching first planks on a double planked hull, do you drill the planks to stop them from the chance of splitting or is it safe to pin and glue then remove the pins when dry

Hi Paul

What material the planks and are you talking about dress-making pins to hold the first layer of planking?

Other considerations but would be helpful to know what you are planning.

Hi Paul,

Here is the first layer of a double planked hull, with the planks pinned in place, a pair of pliers helps you push the pin through the 1/64th ply in these cases. Upper photo MTB 71, Lower White Marlin.

If your making a period sailing ship? Forget my last post 😀 as I thought you were referring to double diagonal planking !!
