Hi all, first post so be kind. Ive just purchased an unbuilt kyosho streamliner kit has radio gear with it too. I used to race rc cars as a lad some 20 years ago when this kit was new so bits look familiar. But I see the world of brushless and lipo batteries is now the norm. My question is really what would be reccoemnded as a suitable brushless motor/esc and battery combo for the model. It currently has an old school mechanical speed controller and futaba 27mhz radio gear.

          Hi Paul

          Welcome to the forum.

You pick up a very nice boat.

As for brushless motors a Hobbyking B28-57-17L 1700kv which is a 28mm motor that looks like a straight change over.

          Prop a 2 blade 32mm 1.4 pitch .

          Lipo battery a 3S(11.1 volts) about 2650mah.

You will find a number of different sizes on the Hobbyking website.

          Harry Smith

The standard size is about the same as the old car NiCad batteries.

ESC (speed controller) a little Hobbyking car 45A (HK-45A)(69 grams) will suit that motor.

As for Lipo battery chargers get a good balance charger one(check you local club to see what the members use).

A safety charge bag is a must !!!!

I used this setup in my 25 and1/4" Aerokits Sea Hornet.

Hello, like you I have got into boats recently and also did r/c cars as a boy (1990s).

Haven't gone brushless yet, but have been enjoying the modern world of lipos and their seemingly huge capacities for a small size.

I picked up some nice batteries and a charger from Overlander. I got a charger from them called an RC6 which will do pretty much any battery type and it has proved extremely useful – charge my old nicds, nimh packs, lipos, and lead acid too.

            Noel.

Took the boat out for its maiden voyage and its awesome, got quite a crowd at the local boating lake! It definatley needs updating battery wise the nicads didn’t last long at all! what would be reccomended as just a battery upgrade for now until the pennies allow new motor and esc etc

For a cheap upgrade get a NIMH from overlander or component-shop, You can get 3700mAh packs for reasonable money. Big step up over nicads capacity wise and can be used and abused in the same way.

                  Got any pictures?
