Well done indeed! That was more than lucky, buy a lottery ticket tonight 😂

We had an interesting morning, two flipped air boats and a small fire (I’m sure Ashley will post the details) the salvage wellies had a good workout!

When someone urges you to fit a 3s Lipo to something to see how fast it will go using the words "you know it makes no sense", just ignore them.

The Swordfish was UNBELIVABLY fast, until it flipped at the end of its run. Richard waded out….but when on the jetty, the magic smoke was let out of the boat….

A mixed bag today. Richards slipper was not that much faster with a speed 600, before stopping due to water ingress.

Peters new jet boat was ok….but a bit nose down….added a small lead strip at the back and that did make a difference….work needed to move the battery back.

Johns new airboat….too fast for John. Or was it the log that moved and caused the upset????

Walrus. went ok, new skeg made no difference so will be scrapped.

          Other than that……….

Great recovery, as Chris says, dead lucky.

It was very pretty pink smoke although not smelling nice !

Unfortunately no one had a camera ready.

Do I have to name the culprit who made me fit the 3s……,????

John’s airboat was very quick, he let me have a try and the steering was very hit and miss which is why he nearly skinned a Canada goose at one point+ he’s the sailing equivalent of Mr Magoo! 😂

John built the airboat from internet plans I believe, and it has a chined bottom rather than deadflat like a normal skimmer.

We thought it wouldn’t work but it does, and it even”leans in” to turns! However we think this is its undoing, as when making high speed sharpish turns, it falls over due to the high motor placement (and thrust line) rather than sliding, as it would if the bottom was flat.

The Swordfish on the 3s was just phenomenally fast, on just 3/4 throttle, as it covered the ground so quickly I didn’t get to use full throttle(!), however it didn’t take off, which I thought it might. It’s downfall for such high speeds is the incredibly low weight which means there is nothing to keep it “on the deck” if it encounters waves or ‘owt.

i have a second reversing esc which I will fit and more importantly…..waterproof….and even more importantly, fit a fuse to (yes ok, I should have fitted one before).

Looks as if it will be ok this morning to test the disco boat. Might saucer as well, also to check lights.

Nice morning Tues, warmish even and nice and bright. No wind early on perfect for Trevors prop and jet Dragonflies.

Disco boat good, unfortunately a bit wet inside for reasons that need further investigation.

Disaster (possibly) on the skimmer front!

Bench testing of Peters skimmer with a Chinese 1400Kv motor of uncertain wattage and three blade 7×4 prop was giving about 11A for 120W or so…….but….

my Overlander 1300Kv 200W motor appears to only be managing a max of 70Watts, 6A draw on any combination of props…..singles, twins, doubled up triples even……what goes on???? I was not expecting the full 200W of course, but the Walrus on a Turnigy 1450Kv 160W motor was giving 160W on the wattmeter with two 7×4 props, so I was expecting more.

Surely the 100 or 150Kv difference was not making that much difference???? or was it?????? I will have to do a pond test Sunday to see what goes on. In the hand, as it were, there seemed to be a goodly amount of thrust, so we will see.

Phew! Had an idea. The reversing esc may not be very efficient, so I tried a JP esc.

                                What a difference!

the scimitar 7×5 blade now showed 12A. 105w

                                cheap three blade 7×3..or 4. 14A. 134w

the cut down 8 inch prop (now 6 1/2 ) A stonking 15A and 160w. !! Handy as this is the one that looks the best. I do need a prop balancer now as it wasn’t very smooth.

i had to actually hold on very tight for these tests…the thrust was so ENORMOUS!! No pond test now reqd……it’s going to rocket along.

Just shows you, you get what you pay for, although they were very cheap . I have two reversing esc’s, so I will try the other one to see if there is any difference. Although the esc was not letting much current through, the draw felt about right for the indicated power….might do for a lower powered boat?

it is blowing up a bit so assuming weather is ok, will be boating large and plastic.

Yes, time to break out (or in) a Fairey!!! I know several readers may be a bit aghast that I have one but there it is. A Fantome, but that`s ok I suppose as in Fairey circles it probably doesn`t count. Also the MFA Swordfish and the usual lander. The weather is unlikely to be very good for testing the Tup.

Bit of a washout. Quick sail with the Fantome, Peter and Trevor tested (successfully) their jet and air boats respectively and then it tipped down so we retired for a cup of hot cocoa.

Today went to wicked to get 3.6mm ply for yet another boat box, and in the afternoon popped by bike to Addlestone models.

Drew/painted windows on Tup, stuck rear star sticker on fins, did up loose 2mm n+b …….aaaaaand…put fuse/connector on new esc and waterproofed it with silicone. Gasp.

                                      Hopefully test tomorrow….
