Skidding being the right word with absolutely no response from the rudder! Hope to have cured that, will find out tomorrow! Hold tight lad I’m going for full power!

OK. I am going to spill the beans.

Richard has a hot 540 installed (the sort with adjustable brush timing) with a flexidrive and a (poss Beryllium) racy prop.

It did exceed expectations, and a test in calmer water will give us a better idea of how well it goes.

The slipper is very nose-up, and to be honest, I thought this was ok considering the novelty of the design. I squarer shelf fitted at the stern, possibly in acrylic so as not to be noticeable would/might help to keep the nose down.

Although it was going very well, some more performance might be available if Richard could get rid of the obvious cavitation that`s going on. Essentially this would call for a larger and possibly surface piercing prop (which work better than normal props when a bit of cavitation is present) but might strain the 540. A speed 600 could be easily fitted I suppose and this might turn a slightly larger prop than that fitted.

HOWEVER….is all that work worth it??? It went really well considering, and was a great larf. I suggested that perhaps a bit of half-round section wood/plastic/woteva could be fitted around the `welt` of the slipper to prevent some of the spray that is causing internal wetness, but it may have been that the fairly severe weather conditions were more to blame than any shortcomings in the design.

Camera at the ready for tomorrow!!!

Yes Ashley, a less choppy test is needed before I start chopping and changing things. Always change one thing at a time then test, always worked for me with all my projects.

It’s not great out at the moment, however it is actually quite mild, and it may clear up by 9-9.30??

I might suggest we try for a slightly later 10-ish meet today and hopefully it will be ok???

Assuming all ok, I will be Devastating, Ex-jet landering, and Swordfishing (with go faster fins)

As it happened, a very nice morning! Wish I had taken something else now, but there we are, it looked bleak at 9.30.

Another surprise from the slipper. It didnt go as well on the dead flat calm pond that was today, as well as it went on Sunday!!!

We put it down to the chop actually helping by lifting the thing up and down. Then it broke.

What to do??? Richard will no doubt let us know.

Underside of Slipper is having a refit, more buoyancy needed. The soaking it got on Sunday seems to have fried the receiver or the Cheepo speed controller did, anyway, tested the receiver tonight with a 6 volt pack and it started getting hot so it’s dead. Need to track down a replacement Planet ts2 receiver, any ideas?

So, not a great morning but had a nice chat and it was nice weather for Woody and the Brigantine, not a complete loss.

No boating Sunday due to rain, but this morning looks very nice, possibly a bit blustery.

Will have Bluebird and Swordfish for photographic purposes, and saucer …Trevor please bring Buzz.

ALSO the ex-jet lander, now just a lander, but quick on its speed 40 and 25mm brass prop.

More like Jurassic park than Bushy park today. The big stags with antlers are busy bellowing at each other and running all over the place. Its quite a primeval sound.

They were going across the pond and/or standing a bit close and/or moving towards us and at one point, one ran at the grassy knoll and leapt over the spot where Richard puts his schooner (which was sheltering at the far side of the pond, rations running low) and trampled on his sail box…..

Bluebird conked out….servo seems to have jammed hard over (but otherwise was ok) and drifted back at a deer-less spot.

We were glad to get back into our safe and cosy tin boxes after that.

Working on a skimmer. have had to order multiple parts due to changing requirements and issues found with the build so far.

Hate the delay incurred waiting for mr postman but there we are.

A complex item is the tail, and this will be today’s job: hinges, skids and servo horn all need to be incorporated.

A bad day at the reservoir today. At the end of the first race we watched the winners boat go windward and nose dive. The boat never recovered and slipped under the water. We can only assume the main hatch came off.

£200 quids worth of Df65 laying in 60 foot of water.

We are going to try and get it on Sunday.

The boat went down between two buoys that were close together. <40 foot so trawling for it should be easy. 🥴

Be prepared for things on the bottom other than the yacht to grab you grapple.

I have never tried to do this but if I did I would think of using a disposable grapple and a double line through a hoop on the grapple so that i could always recover the line if the grapple got jammed.
