        Hi Bob

The laser is great to play with as it has ended my need to use the Bandsaw and Jigsaw for which I am very grateful. It is a joy just to be able to sit back and watch it do all of the hard work.

Yes I am looking at bigger 3D printer as my present one has reached its limitations.

        Hi Ashley

Looking at the size of the motor / propeller combination makes me think that starting by hand might be akin to trying to grab a rotating circular saw blade.

          Hi Paul,

The bigger 2 Strokes are easier to hand start than the little ones ! But get a decent electric starter, I've have a 12 volt Sullivan for years, or a chicken stick and welding glove 😀

          Regards Ray

            Hi Ray

I have an old electric starter somewhere in the depths of my workshop, down around the Permian layer but I will remain faithful to my old chicken stick and leather gauntlet.

At least experience has taught me to anchor the tail section of the plane before attempting to start it, I'm too old and slow for a Benny Hill style romp around the field being chased by a runaway plane.

These are some parts cut on the laser for a 7" & 10" Cabin Cruiser build . If you simply take the window drawing from the cabin side and cut that – it will end up nearly a mm too small all round . To try to figure out the cut width on perspex tried original size , then increased by about 2% which proved to be too large and then as Goldilocks said 1% was just right . Could play around as we had a lot of small pieces of 2mm perspex left over from a commercial job – cutting time for 4 windows – 21 seconds…………..build boats 002.jpg

Using a laser almost feels like cheating…….almost, but not enough to cause any sleepless nights smiley

                  Dear All

I have been giving the credit card a bashing and bought a couple more 1/5 scale ME 109S both with Super Tigre 25cc Nitro engines but then I came across one of the nicest foam models, I don't really like planes built from expanded foam but this one looks the part,

It was a facebook purchase so a quick dash to the 'hole in the wall' and a £100 in slippy new notes got me a Focke-Wulf 109

I will post some photos when the rain stops and the grass dries out.

                    Hi Paul

A neighbour bought one of those recently. Like you he isn't usually keen on foam planes but is very happy with it.

First thing he did was to paint out the yellow in the tail.

                      Dear All

These are a couple of my new aircraft.

Sadly circumstances have changed and I am selling most of my aircraft and drones.

Recieved an email from Sarik Hobbies offering 15% discount on short kits so the Barclaycard took a battering and I ordered an 80in Mosquito.

                            Hi Bob

Yes I did, as I needed to fund something else but part of the changed circumstances was also having to make room for the bigger planes.

Besides it would have been rude not to take up Sariks offer as a 15% discount is a sizeable chunk off the retail price.

Even though I promised myself not to buy any more planes I just couldn't resist this one.

Another monster PBY Catalina with a 108in wing span, all fibreglass body and foam cored wings, the best part is that it comes with the correct undercarriage.

                                  Hi Chaps

I`ve always had a soft spot for model aircraft……Hope the Editor is out of town

We made most of the Kielkraft scale models, which proved impossible to fly at the time

My first successful flyer was the KK Achiles, followed by Ajax, which was hopeless for some reason

                                  The Senator was excellent,

Started with Diesel engines…….ED 2 cc, made of lead

Acquired a Mills 0.t5, lovely but a toy really….etc….etc ad infinitum

The main reason for my post was to ask the question…..What was the secret ingredient for the success of the phenominal Oliver Tiger?

                                      Hello Ashley

Sadly its not my workshop as it is far to clean and tidy, I have no idea what the wire wheeled thing is as I've never seen one before.

In answer to your question about Oliver Tiger the following is an extract from this site link

The Oliver Tiger Mk III set the standard in 1958 when Dick Edmond won the Team Race World Championship, Mike Gaster having previously won the Free Flight World Championship in 1955 using an Oliver Tiger Mk II. Fuel consumption was not an important issue for Free Flight, despite the introduction of the power loading rule in 1958. But by 1960, the engine was out performed by higher RPM operation of the glowplug engine.

                                      Hi Ray.

It is a wonderful big Cat and a bargain at £390 (the undercarriage is worth that) I've got 2 of these big PBYs now and looking forward to float testing them at New Brighton and Runcorn, a process that is bound to ruffle a few feathers with the ensuing argument about the difference between a boat and a plane, especially when the boat in question has a 9ft wing span.
