Just noticed Rays remark regarding me working in secret, and the main reason for this usually is I want to maximise the ‘wow’ factor upon reveal, seeing as the craft is not likely to be something you normally see. Earlier on I was not sure PF liked seeing builds progressing on the forum and then appearing later in the mag so I didn’t.
Current project is delightfully odd, from 1933…
Regarding glue and thin mating surfaces, the current build is exclusively in 0.8mm ply and styrofoam. I have no issues with joining 0.8mm ply with superglue, even on corners, the join is usually very strong and Obviously if poss I reinforce with strips or blocks of balsa or foam. Gorilla glue is good stuff, and several parts of the current build (like the top, panels, which I will not be able to get at underneath once glued) will be gorilla-ad together, being generous with the glue, and the resultant foam will be the joints (0.8 to 0.8mm at a 90 degree angle) reinforcement.
If I do have only superglue joints anywhere I try and paint them with PVA after…just in case….not necessarily because of immediate strength concerns, but more like the two glues will age differently and 5 years down the line there will not be too many issues.
