Steady progress, have coated hull in epoxy resin to waterproof and toughen it. Capstan was turned on a lathe. Inside of bulwarks and strip along the gun ports painted white, the hull will eventually be black or dark gray. The ships wheel and the ships boat are the trickiest bits to make at this scale, anyone any advice?

Crows nest and taff rail on the quarter deck done, taffrails rails around the bulwarks fixed, now waiting to be sanded into shape, all Sapele wood which looks great when varnished.

              Hi Iain

The choice of woods and interesting shapes do indeed look very nice……And even more so when varnished and with a few coloured areas

What is the history behind this model?

              Bob

The taff rails now shaped and sanded, the Sapele wood feels great when sanded then the varnish really brings out the grain of the wood.

Hi Bob, this model was designed by Harry Duncan in New Zealand in 2009. The original vessel was a pirate ship in Pacific waters captained by Imogene Flora Rose in the early 17th century.

Thank you Iain, that's very interesting………….I like the real life connection

Any idea why the masts slope at different angles?

I know it was normal on the early galleons

The masts are angled that way so that each one supports the others via top stays.

The taffrails are gleaming with their final coat of varnish and work started on the cabin.

                              Excellent Windows, Brian!

The coloured effect is really nice and convincing!

Would be even nicer with some sort of lantern to highlight them?

The dead eye fixings and the fancy bow pieces in place, all the bare wood now vanished, just the hull to be painted and the deck fittings fixed. Might add a lead keel and try it on the water, but I am dubious about this odd planking plan, the epoxy resin has sealed the gaps but they do look vulnerable? Oops, forgot the gun port hatches and the rudder!

                                              Hi Brian

It's strange how the pictures get inverted?

I used to have this problem, but it sorted itself out somehow, without my involvement

Must be a bug in the system somewhere?

                                              Interesting build all the same

Will make a nice ornament for the Mantlepiece?

                                              How long is your model?

Ive worked out that it because I'm using an iPad which you can turn anyway around to take the pics. I have put on a lead keel and R/C steering to try it on the water in light winds, so not just for display.
