Hi, In the winter edition of Model Boats on page 68-69 there is a white painted launch of the Lake district type. Would anyone know what this nice looking Launch is called and where I might buy the plans for my next build.

Hi Andy,

The model in question is an old Modean kit, which I believe was sold at the time as a complete model with plant already fitted. The owner of this particular model may be able to help more so if you go to the modelboatmayhem forum website here:

and contact a member who uses the ID of Thelongbuild.

he may well be able to supply you with dimensions and pictures to enable you to copy the hull.

And I thought I had found a good hiding place !!

As Richard says , it was a kit from Modeeen to go with their power plant, Not sure about the launch being a pre built as the one I am currently castodian for was built by a Gentleman who lived near me, but for various reasons passed it onto me to be used and displayed, which it is.. and a very nice sail when full steam raised.

Unfortunately I have no Plans for it but can take a set of pictures with a rule in the picture to give as much detail as possible, I also have a few other pictures of the same Launch from various shows.

Hi Larry TLB Much appreciated by the photos of the launch, I`m not a good guesser but the photo you provided on on mayhem of the launch out of the water makes me think its about 3 feet long ? Any measurements you could provide would help a great deal, Thanks. I`m sure that I have seen a plan or drawings of something similar to this launch recently but still scratching my grey hair whereabouts it was ..

Hi Colin, Thanks for the info,Its a nice looking launch. I would prefer to build the launch but after looking at the link you sent me I am sorely tempted. I think the freight would be a killer though.

Andy, if you are in the UK then £12.50 carriage isn't too bad. The Kingston Mouldings hulls are really top notch. But I can understand you wanting to build your own hull.

MyHobbyStore do a plan for Puffin Muffin **LINK**

This might be a bit bigger than you want but could be reduced. Alternatively there is the popular Miranda plan: **LINK** or Mabel: **LINK**

Hi Colin, Thanks for your help, It would be good if the carriage of the hull would be that price, I live in Australia and think it would be too costly to send. Also I prefer to build my own its much more fun and gives a bit more satisfaction. The link that you sent of Mabel has some similarities to the windermere launch in question.

Andy,

Your registration information defaulted to United Kingdom so I didn't realise you were in Oz.!

What I would suggest is that you buy one of the sets of plans I have referred to, Miranda is a very good one, as all you really need is the information to build the hull. All these launch hulls are very similar. You can then add the internals and superstructure to your own design as you wish.
