Hello – I am flushing the aft deck coamings on my Happy Hunter to bring the model up to Smit Hunter spec. I intend to keep a large access hatch running about 80% the length of the aft deck. Does anyone have a recommendation for getting a good seal on a flush hatch that requires no coaming or lip around the esdge of the hatch opening? I am think perhaps magnetic strip might be a good option. Grateful for any ideas to what must be an age-old problem particularly with low freeboard models.
us what sail yachts resort to "gaffer" tape – nice neatly cut lengths with rounded corners for show. Till now the paint has not lifted. The tape comes in a variety of colours and is also handy for instant repairs at pond side.
When building my Anglian Man I was advised to paint the engine hatch recesss which could have water running over it in rough water with Vasaline ..This I have done for 2 years ,cleaning off when drydocking for the winter with no ill affect .
