Way back in issue number 2 of Radio Control Boat Modeller Magazine ( now amalgamated with Model Boats Magazine ), an article was published by a gentleman by the name of MIKE THOMPSON. The article was named BATTLE STATIONS, and gave a circuit diagram for a Gunfire and Siren electronic circuit, together with building instructions etc.

I have been trying in vain to find a copy of this edition of the magazine, or at least a copy of the mentioned article.

Does anyone out there remember the article or indeed have a copy of it ?

If anyone does have a copy, would you be willing to share it ? Any expenses I will gladly meet.

Is it intended to build a working version? I don't have a copy, but electronic circuits from back then might give you a bit of a chase sourcing components. They did tend to use "not quite standard" parts which might not now have an easy equivalent. Any one of the modern equivalent sound generators would certainly do a better job, probably at lower cost and certainly taking up less space.

Hi Wayne

My solution is very easy and extremely cheap.

On eBay look up item gpd 2846a. It is a very small mp3 board with built in 2 w amp and at about£1.06 post free is very cheap. It needs a USB power supply so from eBay(50p to99p) get a USB socket for a car SIG lighter. Open it and discard everything but the board (even the earth spring clip is only pushed on). Solder 2 wires in and 2 wires out, the output (5v) feeds your mp3 board and your input from your main battery (as long as it is 6 to 12 volts). The mp3 plays as soon as it is powered up , so you can just use a manual switch or operate it from the radio (expensive is to use an electronic switcher from the receiver, cheaper use a cheap micro servo to operate a micro switch). The mp3 board has + and ,- connection marked as well as marked connection for a 8 ohm speaker ( £1 to2 ebay) . the MPs player uses a micro SD card (4gb £2 eBay). There are websites to download sounds some of which are free. So for just over £2.50 you can get USB/mp3/speaker and £2 for each micro SD you want – cheap as chips. It is more flexible than sounds loaded onto chips, play guns/klaxons/woopers or even pop music if you must. Cheers. Ken
