I have 2 Robbe Navy Kompact geared motors in my approx 15 year old Robbe Dusseldorf model. I am thinking of rewiring and simplifying (hopefully) some of the internal spaghetti and at the same time replacing the ageing lead acid batteries with NiMh. The present batteries are 6v and the motors drive 45mm brass props.

Has anyone any advice on using the motors with a higher voltage i.e. 7.2 or 8.4v? The speed controllers are Electronize 43 HVR and a 43 HX. I think these were rated at 15 amp continuous, so I assume they would be ok for a higher voltage battery.

      Thanks

The Robbe motors are rated 6-9.6v so you should be fine with 6 or 7 NiMH cells. Similarly the Electronize ESCs were always rated to at least 12v so your proposed rewire should be fine, and I can't see the motors drawing anything like 15A on load. I would suggest cleaning and lubricating the gearboxes and motor bearings if they are that old.

          Go for it.

Thanks for the response. I have cleaned and lubricated the gear boxes several times but was thinking of doing them and the shafts whilst it was on the bench.

            Thanks

              As my 13 year-old grandson might say – "Yeah – whatever…"

I've just read my last comment again and realised it looks a bit abrupt (i.e. just like a real teenager…). I really meant to say that Tim's proposed actions are an excellent idea, wherever and whenever they are carried out.
                Sorry for any confusion.

No offence taken. With 3 sons in their 30's, 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters under 10 I'm just grateful of advice I can understand.

                  Thanks for the prompt response.
