        Hi all,

        I've just visited my parents and come back with my old model racing boat which has been in storage for many years. It was fitted with an Irvine 61 marine engine but I would like to replace this with either a fast electric motor or another marine engine but with pull start. The Irvine was a great engine but slightly too powerful for this boat as the speed was excessive! The boat was hand built by an avid model maker who made all his own kit. It measures 1m long by around 300mm wide.

        Can anyone provide some advice on options for engines? I'm hoping to use the original control gear which is an E Sky 4CH transmitter and receiver.

        Any advice appreciated and if you need more info let me know!

          Andy,

          Before deciding on what type of power plant to use in re-fitting your model, my thoughts would be to check the water which you plan to sail it on. It sounds as if the model hasn't been in the water for some time and over the years many councils have heavily restricted the use of i.c. on their lakes.

          Is there a club in your area who could advise on what power is acceptable, before going too deep into the technicalities (and expense)?

            On that front I'm very lucky. I have a private lake next to me which I have use of. No restrictions.

              so any thoughts on using an i.c. vs electric for the rebuild? After looking over the Irvine yesterday it's in excellent condition with no signs of corrosion. I'd seriously consider putting this back in if it was possible to fit a recoil starter. Anyone tried this or is it too difficult a task?

                If you are going down the I/C route then this Forum is probably not the best place. It might be worth trying one of the BMPRS contacts for advice:
