Hi Bryan,

Most brushless motors are meant for hello or airplane use and the the mounting holes are set in a cross shaped pattern. I used plastic are to make one thinking I would use it in my Triton, but ended up using a different motor setup. You can use the the cross shaped mount, meant for the hello and airplane world. Works out quite nicely.

Hobbyking have a number of motor mounts some with built-in water cooling(36mm code9215000019-0) or for 28mmm motors a whole drive kit which the motor mounts onto the prop shaft(codes Bp22-S PROP and BP-22 Sleeve).

These would the best setup for a small boat, no lining up to worry about, and the whole drive line acts like a heat sink.

Also a universal alloy 100mm width motor mount which mounts 28mm up to the largest motor.

As for water cooling these motors I have not use cooling in my boats!!

I run a 3639 1100kv in one and a 3648-1450kv in the other on 5800mah batteries.

I get about a hour on the 3639 motor and about 1/2 hour on the 3648 motor.

I run these fairly hard and the battery gets hotter than the motors.

I use the car 60Amps ESCs with reverse(set to 25%) and these only get warm.

Ps anybody got any idea how to wire up a brushless motor and ESC, I think I read somewhere that one of the leads on the motor has to be cut off is this correct?.

I don't know what you are trying to do, but there are TWO types of ESC – brushed and brushless. Each is intended ONLY for the relevant motor type – neither of these ESCs will work with the other kind of motor.

A Brushed ESC has two output wires coming out, which go to the two motor terminals. It outputs (effectively) a variable DC voltage to the motor.

A Brushless ESC has three wires coming out, which go to the three motor terminals (in any order). This ESC outputs a variably switched multi-phase AC current which varies in frequency depending on how fast the motor is running – an entirely different output!

If you want to reverse the direction of a brushless motor, simply reverse the connections to any two of the three wires. If you cut one of the motor wires off the motor will not work, and the windings will probably melt if you attempt to run it….

Bryan. The dodgy motor as above is indeed an OUTRUNNER, and these can drive from the rotor side, as pictured, or from the "rear" depending on the motor and indeed the last motor i bought had an adaptor to enable drive from either end.

An INRUNNER motor would have a bracket just like a normal brushed motor, and apart from being an anodised bright mettallic colour would look just like a can motor, but with three wires at the rear..

Outrunners have tapped holes in the stator to screw screws into, for fixing purposes, in a square 4 arrangement. Dodgy`s home made bracket is flat and simply has a hole in the centre for the rear bit of shaft (usually a bit sticks out) and four holes drilled appropriately for the fixing screws.
