      Andy,

      I apologise if you have already received help on this – I can't answer why they are getting 'hot', but on looking at the diagram, I am not sure if the switch would work? As from the looks of it the switch has been made redundant.

      As a picture paints a thousand words – see below:

          The problem was solved, but your diagram is not the same as the original, it does not illustrate what is in the picture, and the switch does not show that the one used is a three terminal change over.
