      Hello Budding Model Makers,

I am helping a friend with adding 4 motors and RC to Nichimo 1/200 IJN Battleship Yamato.

I made the error of leaving him with one motor and he connected it to the gear box which I find way too old and very noisey.

THE STORY TO DATE: Years ago I bought a Nichimo 1/200 IJN Battleship Yamato and never built it, but the model is now built by a friend of mine on the island of Corsica. He has done a great job of the model, but I made a mistake leaving him a very high speed motor from a racing car. Yes the one motor via the crappy gear box is bad and the vibration is bad. My Friend Olivier is a great Battleship model maker, but the Radio Control and power side of things are new and with updates is always changing.

Can you tell us to how to restart fresh with the best option in rebuilding the power and motor option and where could we order the correct parts. I feel 4 motors and some sort of digital speed controller. I feel the prop shafts also may need replacing as I feel the hold back power and cause noise. Plus what sort of mount for each motor would help cut the noise down and give better running.

I am also sure my friend would also like to add the option of sound and smoke, if this is possible, but powering the model and having good control is first.

Plus where is the best place to ordering the correct parts. Look forward in hearing from anyone who has way more experince than us.

      Kind Regards

      Paul

Hello Paul. I rebuilded the Nichimo Yamato this year. Also with the crappy gearbox…

I removed the motor and the gearbox totally and their pedestals. I made 4 shafts myself by buying brass tube. The model is now propelled bij 4 Speed 400 motors on 6V (leadbattery) with 25mm copper propellors. Rather silent and with a good speed. I put 2 escs in her, one for the starboard screws and one for the port and mixed those on the transmitter with the rudder. So the model has a neat turning-circle.
