Hi Folks – I have perused the article by Dave Abbot regarding conversion of the S-100 and as I am about to get started on my model of the same I am pondering on a single drive on the center shaft with the two outer shafts as dummies.

I am thinking that I will have the two outer rudders performing as per the full size boat (to assist planing) with the center rudder as steering and as for power I am looking at a brushless "540" equivelant.

I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts regarding the above. I have been building boats for years but I am not exactly a pondside modeller ! but alas I wish this to chage and as such ask for your thoughts

Kevin..Are you building this boat as a good scale model that happens to work, or a boat to look good when on the water and perform well ?

The two outer shafts, if left simply as dummies and unpowered but with props on will be horribly draggy, and simply for steering, one centre rudder, if a touch oversize (if using one shaft) will be adequate without the outer ones.

This will be a scale model that happens to work and will be an occasional runner – the single shaft thought was simply for ease and to accomodate a larger single motor rather than 3 smaller ones.

I have never used brushless before but considered that one "540" equivelent may have benefits over three "380" size – I thought I would ask the advice of those with more experience.

I am thinking that the kit rudders will have to be enlarged / modified slightly to give reasonable steering operations but that will be a small "scale" trade off
