Friends..one of the great head ache to a boat modeler is about the coupling between motor and drive shafts..can purchase from shops but expensive..and can make from a lathe work, but have to wait, outside the workshop, with a heavy bill..so here is the cool and efective idea to make a motor coupler works nicely for a life time..
what we need is motor, and some bicycle spokes, sized to the same size as to the motor shaft..with nipples..
this coupling is suited for motors within 3mm or 4mm shafts..will add coupling for big shafted motors..

take one nipple, and make sure its drilling is in straight line by eyesight..

cut a piece of brass or steel tube that fits out with the nipples..

place back side of the motor shaft, on a vise, or on a mandrell, then drive the nipple to the shaft with a light plastic hammer..

clean the inside of the sliced brass or steel tube with round file..

apply high streangth two part epoxy glue to the nipple, and drive the piece of tube on the nipple..wait to dry..use 5 minutes epoxy..

drive a second nipple to the tube as shown..with glue..

thread an other nipple to the spoke as shown..thread in the spoke to the nipple attached to the motor by half…and tighten the outer nipple…

or if we are willing to fix it permenantly, drill a hole on tube along with nipple..

and after fixing the nipple drop some industrial cyano glue in to the hole..once set..impossible to remove…

A very novel idea, Aquaplaner, but in this case, I prefer the conventional commercial type of coupling

and people all you are living among the sophisticated stuffs to buy..here in my remote place it is even not possible to think about a commercial coupling..so have to make my own..i also makes couplins from brass, magnesium and SS dowels, by turning it on lathe..but look how easy is this one..

we can also make universal joints by thick, 5mm bicycle spokes, along with a piece of spoke in between also works nicely..will share all..
