Yes, Dave Jones is right. It is dreadful news. I will put up more details once I have them. Paul and I talked most days by email. He had been suffering from Covid but there was no reason as of last night to suggest that things were so serious.

          These are dark days.

Paul provided me with a great deal of guidance and encouragement both while he was at Model Boats and afterwards. I am shocked to hear this news and deeply saddened to hear that I have lost someone I enjoyed calling a friend.

That's awful news. I never met Paul in the flesh, but had many chats online. He encouraged and tutored me to produce the occasional article and helped me in my modeling. My sincere condolences to his family, to Colin and all his many other friends,.

My condolences to Paul's family and all who knew him on the sad occasion of his passing. I started becoming a regular contributor to Model Boats at about the time of Paul taking over the editorship from John Cundell. He always provided useful help and encouragement to me and we corresponded on modelling matters generally. He was clearly an accomplished modeller. We never met, being in different hemispheres, and sadly now never shall.

Such sad news, I like others here knew Paul through the magazine of which he was an outstanding editor, I hope he finds his berth on the great cruise ship in the sky upon which he told me he enjoyed travelling on so much, RIP Paul.

I have now heard from Paul's son Mark. It appears that Paul unexpectedly collapsed around 1pm yesterday and was found by his Wife who also has Covid. Despite the best efforts of neighbours and paramedics he could not be revived.

Mark will update me with any further news in due course.

Farewell to my great friend, fellow club member and supreme modeller Paul Freshney. Just when life was getting good and a happy retirement only starting it has all been taken away. So sudden and so devastating to all, particularly his poor wife Rose, who is fighting her own battle with Covid, his children Mark and Sara and all the hundreds of Model Boat readers he has supported and advised over the years.

Those of us who knew him well admired his rapier wit, his ready laugh, his vast knowledge not only generally but in the field of his chosen hobby, Model Boats as well. I shall miss our hilarious 2 hour phone chats, his nicking my tea from my flask and eating all the biscuits at the pondside, his support and enthusiasm for my efforts when I first started writing for the magazine, his generosity of spirit and modelling bits when I'd run out of something. To say that I and probably many others are stunned by his passing so unexpectedly, is not enough (I'd only spoken to him Christmas Eve) and words are not enough to convey my feelings at this time.

If there is a Supreme Being may he go with you and safely steer you, Our hearts must now go out to his dear wife Rose, trusting she will recover from this terrible ordeal, and of course his children of which he was so proud.

Farewell old friend, rest in peace.

Shocked and saddened. I didn't really know Paul too well however we'd always chat when our paths crossed at editorial meetings and his love, experience and dedication to the hobby was self-evident. I got to know him slightly better when I took over Model Boats for a few months. His thorough and candid handover of the title was hugely appreciated. The whole thing was beautifully organised and Paul did everything in his power to make the transition as seamless as possible. It doesn't always happen that way. Two or three meetings with Paul (one at his house) confirmed what an absolutely superb scale model builder he was. His boats were immaculate, museum-worthy creations of the highest quality. Very sad news indeed.

I never met him either, but even over the comparative distance of his editing of Model Boats Magazine and his participation on the forum, he stood out and truly made a strong, positive and lasting impression.
