Farewell to my great friend, fellow club member and supreme modeller Paul Freshney. Just when life was getting good and a happy retirement only starting it has all been taken away. So sudden and so devastating to all, particularly his poor wife Rose, who is fighting her own battle with Covid, his children Mark and Sara and all the hundreds of Model Boat readers he has supported and advised over the years.
Those of us who knew him well admired his rapier wit, his ready laugh, his vast knowledge not only generally but in the field of his chosen hobby, Model Boats as well. I shall miss our hilarious 2 hour phone chats, his nicking my tea from my flask and eating all the biscuits at the pondside, his support and enthusiasm for my efforts when I first started writing for the magazine, his generosity of spirit and modelling bits when I'd run out of something. To say that I and probably many others are stunned by his passing so unexpectedly, is not enough (I'd only spoken to him Christmas Eve) and words are not enough to convey my feelings at this time.
If there is a Supreme Being may he go with you and safely steer you, Our hearts must now go out to his dear wife Rose, trusting she will recover from this terrible ordeal, and of course his children of which he was so proud.
Farewell old friend, rest in peace.
