Think it ran over 4 or 5 issues Ray as it was a "Superplan" . David Metcalfe's unless I'm mistaken. Think I have the whole bundle somewhere on paper – including the plan.

Red. Does that mean the instructions ran over a series or the plan was in parts or both?

Brian I have dug up the folder – instructions are in 4 parts – last one in Jan91 issue. The plan was in October 90 as seen in Rays picture- only one sheet printed both sides………Nothing further plan wise except a lot of photos etc in the instructions . My set has a tatty first page of instructions – it got a bit wet at the bottom sometime – still usable though and the rest is A1

Thank you for clarifying that. I will build the Cossack first but always on the look out for nice boats to build.

These are very similar to the boats that were stationed at Point Lynas in the 70’s when i was in my teens. They used to growl when they set off to a ship from the station and the sound was magic.

I fell over this while idly Googling the prototype Pilot 40 Plans – Aerofred

It apparently offers downloads of the plans, article and thumbnails. I wonder if Dave Metcalfe knows?

                        Hi Dave,

Yes copyright seems to be a thing of the past! Sites like Outerzone have my aeroplane designs available free, which is fine with me as the author only ever received a one off payment for publication, so no worry to Dave Metcalf.

                        Hi Brian,

Not a good builders plan really, the hull was available as a Vac formed hull with Plasticard superstructure, not much fun in my book 😀 good detailed drawing as always with DM's work.

                        Regards Ray

                          Oh not plastic. 🤗.
A chap brought along a 3D printed footy to Wednesday sail. I was quite impressed as it was one of the best printing jobs I have seen. Amateur or professional. I think it took 9 hours to make each half. Which is not bad.

At a trade show I did there were some printers there. They all had a handful of spaghetti and no work being done which at the time was quite funny as they were trying to sell them 😂😂😂.

Not a huge surprise these days, Ray. Another name added to my list…

Ray the "plan" at least has hull lines – and you can always substitute thin lite ply for the plasticard . Need to be a experienced modeller though………

Which brings me to my favourite hobby horse – many so called plans are simply drawings which include hull lines . Some are more detailed than others but are still just drawings.

To me a plan would be the sort of thing Vic Smeed produced with all components drawn out .( DM's Faireys would also be plans in my book). A full scale ship has many pages of drawings  –  the Alwyn Vintcent steam tug built for SA Harbours in Italy had 18 odd pages of drawings including hull plating etc – I was given 12 of them by the SA Maritime Museum before it closed – including drawings of the triple expansion engine…………….

                                  Hi Peter,

We would no issues building from a plan with lines only, but the original post was only a general enquiry, I try to design in the style of Vic Sneed showing details & bulkhead shapes on the plan. The December issue of MB's contains a free plan for my White Marlin model, plenty of build pictures in my album, which shows what I've been building in The last few years since I gave up dinghy sailing. Looks very interesting Ray – did you include the superstructure parts? My copy only arrives sometime early in December (hopefully).

Busy with two of DM's Faireys at the moment (one for a friend) – trying to fit them in between commercial work. Pity work interferes with ones hobbies so much – however one has to eat ……….

Gave up dinghys years ago – last one a Flying Dutchman – doubt I would even be able to hold on to the tiller now…………
