        Look at this – **LINK**

I completed it in January1999, and sold it shortly after. I came upon it on Ebay today, quite by chance – wonder if anyone will purchase it?

Good to see it has survived the last 19 years so well Bob. It is a beautiful model and the colour scheme was very attractive. It is a rare example of a lengthened ship looking pretty much as good as the original single funnel design. Aesthetics meant something in those days.

I am still planning on building a 1:150 working model of Miltiades in her original guise when and if I finish my Almeda which is now making some progress..

The thing is that it has been looked after properly. Occasionally, I have had buyers come back saying their model is coming to pieces and discolouring, and subsequent enquiries always show that they have kept them on a window ledge where they are exposed to direct sunlight all through the summer months, and that really wreaks havoc on them. They were smart looking ships, and as you say, I built the lenthened version – Bob

One of your best models, Bob?

                Very nice fine detail

The credit really goes to the original designer and the ship itself. A design and colour scheme like that cannot help but be attractive. Certainly one of my favourites though. I am keeping an eye on the listing, but no-one has purchased it so far, and I wonder if they will. It may have been a better idea to start it off as an auction rather than Buy it Now, but I suppose they know what they are doing as it is being sold by a big nautical firm in the Isle of Wight who specialise in such things.

The sale closed last night, so I assume someone must have purchased it for the price shown. I will keep an eye open for the feedback. It will be interesting to see if it arrives safely, as it is in a glass case!

                      Post Script.

Today, I learned that the model of Marathon had been sold to someone in the EEC. It arrived in a damaged condition!sad Photographs show damage to spars and rigging on both masts, also to some of the derricks. It will be interesting to see how it is all sorted out, and if the courier, whoever it was, will try and wriggle out of paying the insurance. It really is not safe to send model ships by courier any more, and I am glad I took the decision to stop.
