On a recent holiday in Norfolk we spent a few hours in Wells next to the sea. Walking along the path to the beach there were 3 lifeboats aground in harbour or estuary or mudflats.

yes the one on its own in the first picture is the Lochin based lifeboat the Bernard Matthews, from the independent lifeboat station at Caister on Sea, which now has a new Veljentan Dutch jet drive lifeboat, and in the other picture of the two boats, the one on the left is the old Oakley class lifeboat, and the one on the right is a similar sized Rother class lifeboat………I have a sneaky suspicion that one of them was originally based at Wells, and the other based just along the coast at Sheringham………but I don't know which.

They could have been there for the recent opening of the new lifeboat house, or the arrival of the new 'Shannon' class boat.

Never mind the spelling, that's a very smart craft. I wonder who'll be the first to come up with a model? **LINK**

Why wait………….you have the skills, the time and a super chalet to work in, so we will expect the prototype to be sailing in late December.

No can do, Doc. I've other fish in the fryer which will take up my available time until well past Christmas. Anyway, that RIB-shape cries out for some fairly complex GRP moulding, and I only do wood these days.

Never mind your new job at the chippie.

I think you are over thinking the RIB construction as a couple of lengths of 4in plastic pipe with mitred cuts/joints would soon make the RIB tube.

A model builder of your standing could have this project drawn, built and floating in under a week.

its already been done Paul………you can actually buy the full Valentijn kit from a German manufacturer these days,.takes the drudgery out of making your own.
