Came across this youtube clip showing the 'Tugs' from the TV series and other model boats on display at the Buxton Club. The 'Tugs' featured in a recent magazine item by Robin Buckland.

          Very interesting, Tony

I'm amazed at the number of models involved, all with their transporting boxes too

Is Robin a member of the club?

Was nice to see my old Pocatannia sailing…….It won the best in show at Bury, many years ago

          Happy days

Not sure if Robin is a member of that club. he was on here for a short while and wrote the Star Tugs item for the magazine. I think his main modelling subjects were plastics and military.

Which was your Pocatannia? any photographs?

Haven't been to the Bury club for quite a while. Went to the Heywood Club's bring and buy sale last weekend – apple pie and cream was beautiful. There was a really superb steam powered Glasgow for sale which put mine to shame, the seller was asking too much at £600 and it didn't sell. Still keep intending to pay you a visit at Etherow

            Tony.

                  Hello Bob

Another trophy to add to the collection……….those shelves in the display cabinet must be stuffed full of bling.

Does Joyce know about your fan club?

                    Hello Paul

                    What fan club?

That`s Joyce on the right and the other lady is the late wife of Duckie……… Velda She was a great member of the club, very helpful and is dearly missed

Winning that trophy was very exciting for us all

Tony Hadley is a member of the Bury club, but we`ve never actually met

                      Hello Captain Bob

I know who Joyce and Velda are and your little Scottie dog, the fan club that I was referring to is the bus load of adoring fans that invaded our stall at Haydock.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it …………we were having a quiet time and so you decided to fire up the Slo Mo……….we were inundated with people wanting to look at this noisy and remarkable beast.

Of all the boats that we took to Haydock it was the Slo Mo that attracted the most attention.

A superb model and a very well deserved winner. Is the model still with you? Scale Sail always look nice on the water.

                            Bob,

Thought this photograph of the Lido in the 1960's may be of interest.Originally it was a typical lodge which supplied water to the many mills in the area, Vane Marbleheads raced from end to end in the 1950's. In the 60's, Bury Council build concrete walls over the sloping stone to form the banks and converted it for swimming (as photograph). On a sunny Sunday, it difficult to find a spot as the grass banks would be full of sunbathers, ice cream sellers were there and transistor radios were playing loud pop music. There were a few deaths in the water as it was cold and deep and in the 1970's when the motorway was built the excavated ground was used to create a much shallower lake. The motorway also cut off the natural water supply and it became stagnant and fell into disrepair. The Model Boat club arrived on the lake in the 1980's and recently the council have made the lake deeper again. they have also connected a water supply to Improve the water quality. Very difficult for them as there are so many other demands on their budget today. The water is also shared with fishermen nowadays.

Did the fishermen get their share of your clubhouse, as feared?

                                Hi Bob,

I don't think this has happened. Spaces have been set out down one side of the lake for fishermen, but no shared use of the clubhouse to date. As previous, I haven't been for quite a while somehow I doubt things have changed.

                                Tony.

                                  Hi Bob, Tony,

No, I'm not a member of that club I'm afraid. I was available to accept the invite from the Star Tugs team to be able to go and see them at the time, and to write up an anniversary feature on behalf of Paul for the magazine. Hope you enjoyed the feature though.

                                  Robin smile

Ellesmere Port would seem to be a good option.

Here is their website – http://www.thestartugs.co.uk/index.html

The website makes no mention of the facebook request, for event locations, but does provide a contact email (Contact Us tab) which is the same one which is given on facebook

I think they would make a good attraction at many of the larger events, such as Ellesmere, which Colin suggest.

I've just sent a facebook message to them about Ellesmere Port. That email link in the 'Contact Us' tab directs to other email addresses.

I'm sure they will be pleased to hear of your suggestion Larry. Can't help but give a bit of support to organisations such as theirs.
