      Finished Emden at last. It's taken a while, interrupted by a house move to sunny Spain, but here she is at last. Looks good on the water and a delight to sail.

      Great model boat club here in Torrevieja, fantastic sailing water, the top of the lake is sculptured into a map of Europe so we can go for a sail from UK to the Baltic or wherever in a few mins.

      The club is supported and helped by the town and we give exhibitions for visitors. At our regatta a couple of months ago the prizes were given out by a group of people including the Minister for culture and the Mayor.

      A far cry from my last club which closed down following huge charges and pressure from the council.

      We are having an evening event at the end of August with all boats lit up. Warm evening and cold beers, should be great. If anyone is in the area why not come along and see us.

            Charlie, Great photo and very realistic. You are very lucky, and it is nice to see that you get support from the local authorities, unlike here..where if it doesnt make money, they dont want to know.

            So many clubs in this country could be so much bigger with proper council support and they bang on about todays yoofs having nothing to do, but as usual the reality of the situation seems to be beyond the grasp of any normal official body.

              I think at times we tend to assume and all to easily that model boating outside the UK is better served and by inference has better facilities to enjoy the hobby .Yes there are some fantastic venues but to be more circumspect we in the UK are blessed by plenty of superb waters. Some are better served by their local authorities than others but by en large many clubs are well organized and have good relations with their local authorities The bottom line is clubs are only as good as their members , it's the old adage you only get out what you put in. .Bobs club Etherow MBC is a good example and not an isolated one.
