Hi All , I would like some advise on a servo with enough power to operate 3 large rudders on my 49 inch Perkasa . The one i was thinking of buying is a New Power XLD-38HMB BB DIGITAL do you think this would be up to the job and if not what would be best.

Best advised to avoid digital servos if you can, for a number of reasons. I'd suggest this one – it's inexpensive and the torque should be far more than you need for three rudders **LINK**

They draw a lot of current and can cause problems with other items connected to the receiver e.g. speed controllers. You don't really need their high speed or power for a normal model boat.

What applications would digital servos be used for?

Generally they are used in what are called '3D' aerobatic helicopters, other large aerobatic model aircraft, and perhaps such exotica as I/C offshore powerboats and fast electrics. They would deliver no significant advantage in a Perkasa – even a big 'un. I have none in my servo stock and I'm not planning to change that.

                    HI Cookie

Have you considered two standard servos on a Y lead, more than enough power and torque, with the added bonus of it being relatively a cheap option

Not necessarily. Connecting three rudders to two servos mechanically would be a bit of a challenge, and two standard servos plus a Y-lead from Component Shop is £6 more expensive than one high-torque servo.
