Hi all, my son and I have a liking for the old 30's style cabin cruisers, like Osbornes, James Silvers, Thorneycroft, Powells and Woods, but can find absolutely nothing in the GRP hull line to use for a nice working model.

Does anyone know of anything available? I saw mention of a new kit line in 2011 from Paul and Nicola Ebdy (?), but their website, modelyachtdesign.com no longer comes up.

Yes, Paul, that's the one I saw, but there's no follow up. Alas, we pleasure boat fans seem to be even rarer than steam boaters. It seems like if you don't do a steam launch or a turbine equipped Bluebird K7, you don't exist.

Apart from that big fashion for doing models of Bluebird of Chelsea a few years back.

            Cheers,

            Martin

Today's modellers don't seem to identify with older designs of the type you mention hence nothing much in the way of commercial kits.

However, the Model Boats Plans Service offer a number of interesting cabin cruiser designs, many by Vic Smeed, if you are willing to build the hull yourself.

The reissued Aerokits range do offer some more traditional designs although probably not quite what you are looking for.

Just for a bit of interest and probably nostalgia……

There's a big abandoned Broads type cruiser in a field near Llandegla…North Wales

Can't imagine how it got there?

Colin, my son and I just don't have the time to build a hull from plans and the Aerokits range (of which I am a big fan for what they are) are not really suitable.

However, somebody on the excellent Mamod forum suggested modifying the Naval Pinnace hull in Kingston's range and that may well prove what he's after.

Bob, one wonders how a Broads Cruiser was shovelled over to N. Wales! Moreso…why?

                    Martin,

I don't think Kingston Mouldings do a pinnace hull. Do you mean the RAF 60ft Pinnace in the Models by Design range?

                    Bob,

I don't know why you should be surprised, didn't you notice all the flooding we had earlier in the year? smiley

                      Hello Martin

It just occurred to me that an MFA hull might suit your purposes even though they are more suited to a Huntsman type build they might just fit your needs.

                        Hi Martin

I am going to be taking a mould from my current build as soon as it is in a fit state. If the hull shape is suitable, I would gladly knock out a hull for you at cost.

Mike, that sounds interesting. Could you send a picture, please?

Paul, a Huntsman isn't really what he wants as he has something of that ilk already. It's a round bilge we're after.

Colin. It's definitely Kingston Mouldings. It' s a bit over a metre long.

Kingston Mouldings are not currently listing a Naval Pinnace as far as I can see.

                                Pinnace, schpinnace…what's a Picket Boat twixt friends?<G>

                                Sorry about that!

Invisible man, as long as you didn't mind me bandsawing that round bum off it, your hull would do nicely.

                                I'll send Bazz a link.

                                Many thanks.

                                  Hi All.

We are back firmly on the ground from MYD and will be trading as Broadland Classics. The break between 2011 and present witnessed my prolonged service in the military, however now retired, my wife and I are moving on with the mouldings plugs of the afore mentioned exciting new projects. We are aiming to present the first at the Warwick Model Show in Nov. Kindest to you All. Paul and Nicola.
