Hi I have made a model of a German S.A.R. boat its about 25" long & beam of 5.5" its made from a revell plastic kit, so it not really for a working model.the problem is I cant seem to get it very fast, it just plods along where it should be planning. I have fitted 2 MFA 385 MOTORS with 6volt 1.8 Nicads. Can any one tell me how to speed this boat up ,bearing in mind I cant afford brushless motors, & because of lack of space I cant get bigger nicads in, the same about the propsi think they are about 30mm.

Hope some one can Help, Happy boating for 2014, From Doug.

          Douglas,

If they are the generally advertised MFA 385 motors then the voltage range is 6-15v and you are running them at the low end so you really need quite a few more volts to get the performance you want.

I'm sure some of our experts will be happy to comment as well.

You need 380 motors – the three-pole version of the 385. I'd also change the props down to 25mm – these things go like stink! **LINK**

Providing more power, the 380s will want more current. Check the rating of the ESC(s) to make sure that the increased current demand can be met without letting the magic smoke out.
