        Hello,

Do any of you know what the correct method is for applying sail numbers to a set of sails and also the postioning of them? I have attached a photo of the sails and yacht to help.

My sails are made from Cambric cotton, I have also found one mention of applying with a Sharpie Pen but I've tested this on a scrap piece I had left over and the pen bleeds on the fabric. The only other methods I can think of is fabric paint or stitching fabric numbers on, but I would rather have it done the proper way if there is one.

If anyone know I would be very grateful, also is it possible to add GBR on the sails as-well?

        Thanks

          Hi Mike,

go to the MYA web site and there you'll find information that might help. You can get numbers and other items from model yacht specialist firms, or do as I've done and make a stencil of you desired numbers and lettering (computer word packages actually have a format for stencil or outline), then lay flat on the sails and lightly spray with fabric paint, making several light coats.

The placement can be found by looking at images of racing yachts either on trhe MYA site of just google images model yacht racing. I don't think using GBR is a problem at all.

If your yacht is a specific class, again as defined by the MYA, then it will have class symbols that have a specified prefered position. Again, I'm assuming that as you have "numbers" then it's registered to a class and been allocated the number, after measurement etc.

I shall probably do as you've done yourself with the spraying.

The Yacht is 48.5" and I've been told it isn't of any official class so I shall be using my own numbers of 07 as there have been 6 British Nimrod vessels in the past.

Is there a particular Spray I should use for Cotton?
