Has anyone else had a problem getting on to Model Boat Mayhem today?

I keep getting a message saying that the account has been suspended.

It appears to be the same problem as a a couple of weeks ago, think it was hacked or something.

Mayhem suffered a severe "hack attack", and was off line for a few hours while Martin Davis and the hosting company sorted the problem out. It is now back up and running.

Some people, ie the hackers, mustn't have much of a life if they derive entertainment from causing a popular hobby site to crash, for no other reason than they can

It does beggar belief that some people think that this sort of vandalism is worth doing, its like yobs pinching a grannies purse for the few pence that she has…..pointless.

There's no way of telling, but the connection is getting so unreliable that it's hardly worth trying to log on these days. Shame really.

I only had the one instance where I couldn't log on, and I've heard of no problems recently. I usually log on when all good Northern Hemisphere people are asleep, due to the time difference, so that may explain my situation.

Glad to hear most people can now get on to Model Boat Mayhem.

There was a bit of outage on Saturday but that was the first time for weeks, (site maintenance).

As Peter states, we've been under a very concerted "DOS" attack form a very far East country, which effects everyone trying to logon to Mayhem. Not much we can do about it but fight them off from the battlements and hurl abuse!

We've again upped the FioreWall and Malware server protection to help fend off the blighters and thing are mostly back to normal now.

Is it worth logging in these day,s as only POSITIVE comments or remarks are accepted about traders or any services or be supjected to blocking by the moderators.

Actually there is a very good reason for that. Positive comments are straightforward but when people make complaints you are only getting one side of the story and if the other side chooses to respond then the whole thing frequently degenerates into a slanging match. There is no mileage in airing disputes between customers and traders on a Forum as it is impossible to determine where the truth lies and can lay the Forum owner open to legal action if it carries unsubstantiated derogatory comments.

Disputes should always be resolved directly between the parties concerned. Airing them in a public arena resolves nothing and can cause a great deal of unanticipated trouble.

While I understand your reasoning Colin I do feel people should be able to express their opinion publicly regarding poor service from a trader especially if said trader is not responding to any attempts to contact them.

If a trader is taking peoples money and not delivering the goods or services promised should they not be exposed to prevent more people from making the same mistake?

Personally, I am highly suspicious of sites banning negative reviews or opinions concerning traders who are advertising on said sites but that is the cynic in me.

But, as you say, it is your opinion Dave. Yes, some traders are indeed lacking in customer care but equally there are a lot of difficult customers out there who have their own axe to grind and who can be a bit economical with the actualitie. (No, of course I didn't connect it up the wrong way round). So the poor Forum operator is caught in the middle with no way of really knowing where the truth lies. Experience has shown on Mayhem and elsewhere that the actual circumstances are frequently very different to those that the posters would have us believe even if both sides genuinely believe they are in the right. It is therefore inappropriate for Forum owners to provide a platform for dissenting views which frequently can become quite aggressive. In short they would be on a hiding to nothing. If you have a complaint then publicising it on the Internet rarely brings about a solution and frequently simply makes matters worse. You need to take direct action.

I have been a Mayhem Moderator in the past and speak from experience.

You are absolutely right Colin and I don't dispute what you say, I just feel there is a case as I have said but, as we agree, it is my view.

Out of pure interest (please believe there is no hidden agenda here) if people were having a genuine problem with an advertiser in MB who were taking money but not delivered goods and not responding to any communication would MB take any action?

This has occurred in the past and has been resolved! It is not a common situation though.

The reality is that people get to know if certain traders are a bit dodgy but there are of course legal issues which affect the involvement of third parties. It's not altogether satisfactory but these things are rarely black and white situations. It's not fair to expect third parties to become directly involved if it entails a risk that they may be subjected to legal action.
