Thought you might be interested in this little lifeboat… At just 32cm long, it is a really nice little boat and she performs great, check this video:

I built it to plans from http://eezebilt.hobby-site.com/ but had to tweak it a bit to get it more seaworthy:

-Added the spray rails

-Modified the superstructure to close the gap at the lowered deck section

Diede. Very nice. Very tidy and a fair turn of speed!

Looked at the video, and saw outside the breakwater/harbour a tug going almost as fast. What I like to see.

You should make one twice as big now.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks, I am really happy with this little thing.

However I won't make one twice the size, for several reasons. To name a couple:

-I already have way too many projects at hand

-Twice the size also means A LOT more details

-The pocket-size of this boat is one of its biggest assets! (you can carry this boat in a plastic bag no problem)

However, I won't stop YOU from making one double-sized version

Nah, not into life boats. Have a converted RTR Severn and thats enough for me.

I take your point about being "bag" size, and perhaps it is best left small. I think you could scale up without adding too much to it. The trick, i like to think, is to make the model look like a simple model, and not one that you have just not bothered to detail up. To this end, I recon you could get away with your boat twice the size, and it would be as it is, a large simple model capturing the look of a lifeboat, and not attempting to be a replica.

Small boats also get overlooked on the water in favour of large models. Ashley

none of the links for the mini Tamar work, so any idea where I can get plans for the mini Tamar, think it would be nice for the grand kids to learn about model boats, they find looking at plans boring need something they can work on with the computer LOL!!

Try the following link it just worked for me – a little bit slow to load but will take you to all the plans including the Tamar.

I was luck enough to be able to build several of the eezebilt range as a lad – it's what got me interested in model boats.

Sorry – the site was a casualty of DynDNS pulling their free domain name service which they had said would be kept going indefinitely – so the name had to be changed to **LINK**

The original idea of the free EeZeBilt plans/cutting lines was for experienced modellers to cut out the 2 dozen or so balsa pieces, which can be given to the grandkids with a tube of glue. They won't need much help to make their very own first boat….

But I find that a lot of adults are enjoying the rapid egg-box assembly and ease of use of a little eezebilt – and, of course, they cost peanuts…
