I have just completed the sail plan of the steel-hulled British full-rigged ship Fairport, of 1896. Not a particularly handsome vessel with her stump t'gallant rig and jib-headed spanker. This vessel was scuttled at St. Helena in 1919 to put out a fire in the coal cargo. I have looked down on the wreck in the clear waters and gazed upon the remains, now opened out like a kipper. Also, I have stood next to, and held, the great wheel of the Fairport that is now mounted on the wall of the Consulate Hotel, St. Helena.

I have now to complete the profile and deck plans of the hull before moving on to the next plan.

        Bob
