Inexperienced but trying. Working on two Billings boats, the Bluenose and HMS Bounty. I would like to improve the decks with veneer planks of what wood? I had thought of holly or pear but they seem impossible to find. Any thoughts on suitable veneers and sources would be appreiciated.

              Robin,

Also have a look at the timber section of the Cornwall model Boats site: **LINK**

Lime is commonly used for decks, if it is too pale for your taste then you can always stain it.

Robin. I have never planked a deck, but from what I have read there is nothing "best" for decks. Its what you fancy the colour of or can get the wood for.

A lot of pople, from what I have seen, use coffee stirrers…..free from Costa or McDonalds!!
