Hi Andy

Duckie poking his nose in Again!

I took advise from the build in this mag's review and a chap at the Colwyn Bay club who seems to only speciallise in narrow boats and fitted a 777 motor as it's supposed to be slow reving.

Hi Duckie . I honestly dont mind you putting your " BEAK" in as all advice is graratfully recived . My neighbours boy threw out an old rc car last night so me being a bit of a magpie thought mm i'l have that , body work is a tiotal right of but the motor is a beast about the size of a £2 coin .

The motor in my narrow boat is a Graupner Speed 500E part number 1788, running on 7.2 volts and driving a 40 mm 3 bladed propeller. It works fine as most of the time the boat just potters around. If you were to spend a lot of time at full throttle it would get rather hot as a 40 mm propeller is really a bit too big for this motor.

Good Evening Gareth,

I have been commisioned to build a pleasure narrow boat,

so had a look at your walbut dream, and my standered work boat so doubled up the plan wich came out about 1/12 so its looks abouht right, it is going to be planed around a lay out of a boat in avon marina so have the lay out so can you tell me the total sheer of your walbut and the cabin devide wall height and width at base and roof span , to see if will match my dims,

the lady is going to use dolls house fittings , wich she makes here self , art work will be printed by me.. so hope you can help , it wiil be scratch build hull , will be a static model to start with ,

but will fit 400 motor to use later on, have another work boat ready to recieve paint

will post some pictures when complete ,…. so hope you can help… cheers Larry..

Hi Larry,

I am not sure what dimensions you need but I found a reject frame in my scrap box so I have marked up the dimensions in millimeters on a piece of paper. If its not what you want or you need any other sizes let me know and I will measure it up.

Hello Gareth,

Thank you for help, posted a couple picures for some dims , as shown,

also did you fit a base floor, or as your hull have flat bottom,..?… another silly question oer all lenth of hull and total height from hull botom to roof top and beam width,..thank you again ….Larry..

Hi Larry,

The hull that I used for my narrowboat was from Deans Marine. Its completely flat bottomed and has no keel.

The overall length is 1070 mm, max breadth over the rubbing strakes is 185 mm and height from bottom of hull to top of roof is also about 185 mm.

I am not sure what dimension you mean by sheer in the top picture. The distance from the surface of the deck to the waterline is about 35 mm but I think its called freeboard rather than sheer. The distance from the surface of the deck to the top of the roof is 85 mm.

The width of the hull at the point you have drawn the red arrow on the lower picture is approximately 180 mm.

The inside floor of the hull has several sheets of lead flashing as ballast with a sheet of 1.5 mm ply as the main floor on top of that so overall its probably about 5 mm thick.

Are you going to the model boat show at Coalville this weekend? We are going on Sunday and we could bring the narrowboat down it you want to have a look.

HI narrow boat fans,

Here a few pictures of pleasure narrow boat in 12th scale inspired by Gareths build,

so far its a card mock up of stern so can make changes, for my set up …

when happy will start build proper , have drawn bow section, with a few mods based on work boat, and now looking at interor layouts, the is going to be based on one freinds boat ,

but is away being refiited , a victim of winter weather, flooded out,

the little guy is a guide to scale , loned from my other halfs dolls house,………

very intrested in the foam board build on Pauls page , might have look at using a bit in this model……………..cheers Larry..

Nice to here nice comment, yes that is to be the commission,

realy a floating dolls house, may also build a work boat at the same scale,

Good morning all,

Started on narrow boat, usual scratch build using Ikea blind ply from builders skips, and card

posted a couple of photos of build so far, with help from Garath,

put a build drawing together, and have a boat on the local avon to look at ,

also dolls house lady is involed,

so here we go , cheers Larry…………….
