After a bit of head scratching and key bashing, also many thanks to all those who replied to my original message , i have found a magazine called hobbys .This magazine used to carry boat hulls but now i cannot find them .Any one got any advice on anyone that makes these hulls or has got one knocking about i may be able to do a swap for or can sell me cheap . I know i am being cheeky and asking alot but you dont ask you dont get !!!!! All i am after is the hull or even plans for a narriow boat that i can beg ,borrow or steal . Many thanks for taking the time to read this .

They have a website here: http://hobby.uk.com/

There is a heading for Canal Boats but not a great deal of information but no doubt you could ring them.

Colin , many thanks for the speedy reply . I have checked out their Website but it's quite vague and only show a modern leisure type narrow boat .I've been through the magazines in my favourite " library" smiths !!!! I think i may try the local library and see what they can come up with .

Andy, Dave Brumstead of Model Boats Magazine, has just done a review of the latest Riverside Models narrow boat kit in the May issue. You could also try getting in touch with Pete at Riverside, (01692 652960) he may be able to help.

                Regards, Bob.

The Riverside Amy Claire review is now available on the home page here but only to subscribers I'm afraid but, as Bob says, it is in the current May 2012 issue on sale now. Dave Brumstead's review is very comprehensive.

A good selections of views and would like to offer a further few. Before retiring I own a narrow bean boat and there are few simple rules to follow.

All Narrow boats were 6ft 10 ins at the beam and a maximum72 ft Most are flat bottomed .A trip to your local boat yard will give you a mass of useful information .Take a camera as with a lot of good tradesmen they are only too pleased to let you photo their pride products ,there is a boat yard near you I,m sure . If you can find the beautiful Doncaster Tug you will be privelidge to see craftmanship of the top order and a beautiful craft to build A trip to Steven Goldbergs will show interior finish of the of the best order Good luck with your search Michaelwink

Mike a million thanks for your suggestions but unfortunately i don't think Cardiff has any boatyards that build narrow boats. But i may try either the brecons or glouster and drag one of my daughters along for the company i don't think hey would mind as it would be a day out for them .

Now then Andy a quick look in my old logs your nearest boat yard is in Devises Wilshire but cannot remember much about them ..The best yards are around the midlands and up in Cheshire Trouble is you may end up wanting the real thing when you see them Good luck againwink

Thanks mike . I reckon i could build one from scratch as i found a Website with lots of nice colour pictures and an excellent one of the stern and ' crew quarters' . If i take the image of the man as being 6ft high, then the living space is waist height above the deck say 3ft for arguments sake and roughly 18ft in length by 7ft in width , all these are rough measurements . All i need is the hull dimensions so i have something to ponder .

I would love one of these boats but i don't reckon i could moor up on the river Taff and the old canal in Newport is not really existent anymore . I have heard stories that a canal used to rundown the side of North rd in Cardiff and they bought the anchor chains for the Queen Mary down on this canal to the Cardiff docks for testing .

                              Hi Andy

I'm just finishing of my Riverside Models leisure version kit, but a mate in our club bought just the hull from Riverside and is building the rest from pictures and measurements from the real thing, have you given them a ring.

Ducky, very pretty. I like the homely detail, flower boxes and such, this brings a model like a narra boat to life,

The use of spray cans as funnels is very novel.

Never thought of that Ashley, Bob the builder did though, His water jackets round the bottom of his funnels on "Great Eastern" are deoderant caps! would have to be a large scale model to use my spray can tops hey!

Shouldn't take up Andy's thread anymore though.

Have you thought of square black guttering Andy for the hull it comes in quite large sections?

Handling my Narra Boat hull and last week working with sqaure guttering the thought came to me they are very simular size, and the MB editon for this month shows you how the do the stern and bow the way Riverside models do it.

                                          Hey, Ducky

It's just as easy to use three planks of wood, for the hull…..Forget the plastic guttering?

I think Ashley is pulling your leg!….He's referring to the tins at the back…..They look like chimneys!
