      Hi

Just getting back in to the hobby after 20 plus years and will soon be completing an electric powered Waveney Class lifeboat (3 feet long).

I live near Epsom in Surrey, can anyone tell me where I can sail the boat or join a club water. After talking to local model shops there seems to be a lack of places to go.

Any information would be very helpful.

      Thank you
      Derek

          Derek.

I am not a club member but Bushy Park, next to Hampton court is where I sail, not far from Epsom. Car park right by the pond and a nice low concrete jetty to launch from.

No car park fees (yet!) and sailing any time of the day and year.

Ashley (Sunday mornings for us chaps usually)

            Derek,

The pond in Rosebery Park on the road up to the hospital was originally built as a model boating pond but whether it is still suitable I don’t know – maybe worth checking out.

Otherwise I would endorse Ashley’s suggestion of Bushy Park above.

Another posible alternative would be to join the Phoenix Model Boat Club http://www.pmmc.org.uk/2.html
who sail at Silvermere near Cobham.

This it may be useful to anyone else reading the thread.

I understand from my local model shop that the Epsom & Ewell council do not want model boats sailed on the Roseberry pond anymore, and are happy for it to become a wild life pond. It is very dirty and full of the usual mess associated with Geese and other birds.

The other problem is parking close to the pond, yellow lines everywhere.

I used to sail at Rosebery Park quite often in the 1970s and of course parking was free both sides then. Shame that it is another purpose built facility gone.

Probably a bit far but we have a purpose built lake with a floating platform to launch from. We are down in SW Wales.

Just a thought, would it be possible for location map of lakes ?

Not on this website I’m afraid. But people could post links if they wish.

Derek, probably too far for you but Eastbourne Club use the local boating lake and I have just posted details of my club and waters on the club section of the forum. Worth a visit anyway even if too far to commute regularly.

May give it ago for a day next year.
