Many years ago, around 1988, I built a boat called “Electron” from a free plan in Model Boats. I would like to build another but have lost the plan. It was 15.5″ long with a beam of 5.5″ Does any one happen to have a plan or know what issue it was published in.

It’s not on the list of free plans I have but the name would suggest it is a Glynn Guest design as he did do others caller Proton and Neutron. I will alert him to your post but he may be on holiday at the moment.

Glynn has come back to me and says it rings no bells with him. He thinks there my have been an Electra plan in the Radio Control Boat Modeller magazine but the dimensions you quote don’t tie up with his recollections.

Maybe somebody else will be able to shed some light on the subject.

Hi Ray,

Electron was one of Glynns plans, it was published in Radio control boat modeller in June 1988. I also built one of these and blooming quick it was too, until it met the pond side at full speed, the motor and radio went 20 feet inland and the balsa shreds floated calmly away. I wonder what one would be like with a brushless set up? Hmmm

Anyway, I have the plan and it should scan nicely, if you pm me with your email address I will get it to you over the next couple of days.

I think there are plenty of people here who would be interested to hear how the build goes.

Thanks to all who responded to my request for info on the Electron.

I built one in 1988 and was quickly asked to make another two for my them young, children. I used to original to make a fibre glass mold and the made two more; I still have the set of molds.

After sitting in the loft for more than 15 years, I am renovating one of the fibre glass Electrons with a brushless inrunner and LiPo battery and 2.4GHz radio kit.

I have just been told that the Electron plan can be found in Glynn Guest’s book “Small radio controlled boats”, which was first published in 1998 and is still available.
