Hello everyone, I’m new to this site and joined in the hope that a fellow member may be able to help me in finding out about a boat I was given many years ago.

She is called ‘The Pride of Britian III’ and she is a clockwork wooden speedboat made by Bing British Boats. She was given to me about 35 years ago by an old family friend that had no children to pass it on to. He has now sadly passed away and I have tried to find some information about my boat but have drawn a blank.

I have found references to a german company called Bing Brothers that ceased trading in 1933 but that is the only trace I have found online of any model company called Bing.

I hope that someone will be able to help me find out more about my very precious boat.

      Thank you,

      Joe

          Hi Joe,

Bing was a well known German company, you can see a potted history here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bing_(company)

It’s possible that your model could be worth a bit but I have no idea on values myself.

It might be worth contacting the Brighton Toy Museum http://www.brightontoymuseum.co.uk/

who may be able to identify it for you.

          Regards,

          Colin

The only reference I can find is from an auction in 2011

              Thanks guys,

the auction photo that was posted shows a boat that is very similar to mine – the bottom one with a red hull though my one has a blue hull.

I’m still trying to date her so if anyone else has any more information I’d be very grateful to hear from them.

              Joe
