As many of you who have been following some of my work I have posted some new pictures on my album: Duke Of York.
I have now come so far as to having finished sanding down the hull of this huge model and installed a Meranti edging right around the hull. The decks have been shaped to fit exactly into this raised edging and sanded flush. This means that the railings right around the edges will not be affected if the decks and superstuckture have to be removed.
I positioned the completed rebuilt superstructures in their places and also put the main guns more or less in their positions just to get an idea of what she will look like later. Painting will be the next step for the hull.

Has anyone an idea where I could find a model of a walrus aircraft on a scale of 1/96?
        Regards to all,
        Bernhard

          Hello BB

It`s really nice to see you working on this magnificent model of yesteryear and it`s also very nice that you are restoring with such great attention to detail!
You must feel quite pleased to be bringing it back to it`s former glory!

What is the history of the model?

          Keep up the good work

Congrats to your mate on restoring the schooner too!

The Model was origanlly built by a person by the name of Jimmy Smith a member of our old now disbanded club, : Johannesburg model power boat club. This club disolved in the early 1980’s. The model was built in the 1970’s.
Jimmy has since passed on and the model was moved from pillar to post. It was on a veranda in the sun for a few years and eventually was put into storage in the bunker at our club at Centurion, a suburb of Pretoria.
The roof of the bunker was not water proofed and after extended rains the ship filled with water. As You can imagine this did no good and when she was dried out, mildew and dry rot set in. The decks and superstructure were built of ordinary commecial plywood and this all delaminated.
When I eventually got the model to my house Everything was falling apart and so today all the parts have been rebuilt in abs plastic and the decks are now marine ply.
I took many fotos of the ship before I even started work on her. These I printed and created a reference book for the rebuilding.
I still wonder what happened to all the models which I used to see at the club in the 1980’s?
            Regards Bernhard

              Thanks Bernhard

I`m surprised the boat wasn`t scrapped years ago, since it is quite old!

When you post more photos, put a few in this actual thread, then you can describe what`s been done etc
              Restorations are very satisfying

I will certainly post more pictures as I go along because now is the interesting stage where all the bits and pieces will fit together very fast because most have been built already.
