I’m trying to track down a set of Norman Ough’s drawings for HMS Cossack for a future project. Having difficulty finding them even with the modern net resources. Can anyone make suggestions. I know they appeared in the old Model Maker in the late ’50s, would these copy up?

I think the Norman Ough plans ended up in the David MacGregor plans collection, I have an old catalogue listing these, the Tribal drawing was of Matebele rather than Cossack.

The MacGregor plans are currently in the possession of the Great Britain Trust at Bristol and many of them are reportedly in a fragile state. Despite the Trust having said they would be available again ‘soon’ for some years, recent enquiries have given no indication that they will be on sale again anytime in the near future which is rather frustrating.

I’d heard that the Great Britain Trust were current custodians, but I haven’t been having much luck with them, for the reasons you ascribe.I’ve got a line on the old Model Maker issues, so may have to rely on the local copyshop. It’s mainly the various parts details I’m after, than the general arrangement. Plenty of time though, the search continues.

              Hi Ian

I'm new to this site, and have just seen your post re Cossack. I have Norman Ough's dreawing fort HMS Matabele (which I built to 1/120 scale) and could photocopy it if you would like it.

I am restoring the model (which is a working model) with a view to installing radio control. It's very fragile though, couldn't risk it on anything but a swimming pool!

I'd be delighted to receive a photocopy. The MAP plans and a few small copies of the original articles from way back when are still in my 'to do' file. I was beginning to think I'd have to go with what I had. PM me with costs etc.

OK I'll check out the cost – shouldn't be much – and let you know.

                  My email is [email protected]

I'd be happy to send you the photocopy free of charge if you would give me your address.

The copy is remarkably clear – far better than the murky original!

Drawing arrived this morning, many thanks. It hadn't registered with me that it would be coming from Australia!

                                  You're welcome.

I built a model of this ship over fifty years ago, after meeting Norman Ough at the Round Pond. He was kind enough to compliment me on an earlier model of HMS Cossack which I'd built from photographs, and we corresponded for a while.

I've recently resurrected "Matabele" and am considering equipping it with radio control as was originally intended (but which I couldn't afford at the time).
