I am in the process of rubbing down the framework of my Amati Aquarama model in preparation for planking.  Whilst doing so, I’ve realised how much easier it is to gauge the centres and edges of the members being rubbed down because the parts are laser cut and have a ‘burnt’ edge.  I’m thinking that on non-laser cut frames it would be worth colouring the edges with a marker pen or something similar, so that the effect of the sanding process can be more readily seen.

It’s likely that this is not a new idea, but it may be of use to someone out there?!

Not a marker pen, because the ink soaks into the wood and you’ll not get a sharp change when the required level is reached. I’ve always used a soft pencil (2B-ish).
