I bought this kit while last in UK as a winter fun thing. I can build it in the kitchen when the shed is too cold! Quality of the Balsa is excellent and it comes complete with prop shaft. motor,(looks like a 200) and propellor, a 3 bladed plastic. It is intended as a free running model and the power is 2 C Cells in a holder.
I was thinking of RCing it. 1300, 5 cell Nimh pack, same weight as the batteries. Small ESC and mini servo. But what motor? Any ideas people? Has anyone done this conversion? Look forward to any replies and suggestions.

Hmmm.. a speed 400 motor would be the obvious choice I would think.. but weight is obviously an issue here. How fast do you want to go?

I might be tempted to build, seal and float with a speed 400 (or a 380) and see how deep it gets before building in the motor mount, if this is possible..   Is it a 2mm shaft with this kit?? there is very little choice of props at this shaft size, and they tend to have very little pitch.

From the blurb on other sites the kit measures  395 by 210 or something. Should be ripe for conversion!

OR…. the “Hydra 15 combo”   brushless motor and esc from Mtronics…would be a bit different.

Looking at several other either kits or plans from the plan service of boats around your size, a 400 would seem to be about the mark. Unless you want to go a bit faster at the expense of run time.

I have just bought several of Howe`s own 27M receivers at a very cheap price and they are very small indeed…just right for a project such as yours, and my next one as it happens, what with my very tiny servo and brushless ESC.
