I would like some advice on the best way to make ‘window frames’ . I have tried using wood, brass and aluminium but never really suceeded to my satisfaction. Suggestions as to materials, tools would be appreciated.

Hi Campbell,

I think we really need to know:

1. What type of windows?

2. What scale are you building to?

Do you have a picture of the originals you can show us – or tell us what type of boat you are building?

Greetings

Thank you for your reply.I have jumped the ‘gun’ here. The model in question is the Billings US Coastguard kit which I built some ten years ago. I am in the process of re- painting and adding more detail to the model. The scale is 1:20. I have been looking at the website http://www.44mlb.com/44mlb-home.htm for information.

In this particular situation, styrene (plasticard) might be the best answer,

Having looked at the windows of the Waveney lifeboat at Chatham today I think styrene sheet would be the easiest way of reproducing the frames.
