Thanks for the information- I do admire those boats. As I said I have been going to that area for holidays for twenty years now and have often stayed at Martham and have hired their boats. There have been many changes over the years and as you say, the wooden fleet has diminished, many passing into private ownwership.
A couple of years ago the old green shed was knocked down which seemed a shame but you can understand that it wasn’t very suitable for a modern business- just sad for nostalgic old buffers like me! As a footnote, although, it’s lovely to see these old boats still in use, we hired a small wooden gaffer a few years ago and when it rained it leaked like a sieve- not many people understand that this is the nature of the beast and are prepared to put up with it.
Bob, the planking on Jeanie Deans looks tremendous- what’s happened to the chap in the blue boiler suit !? Thanks for putting these photos on- I will have to have a serious think next time I do a deck.
